About
Renee Alexander was created during a time when I, Brianna (Renee) Lopez, was going through a divorce, then eventually getting remarried. At that point, I barely knew what my name was. Time to make up my own!
During the same time, I returned to writing music. I had first started writing music as a teenager with my childhood best friend. We created an epic! and famous! band called 87 Toothpicks.
(What do you mean you haven't heard of it??)
Through the turbulence of adolescence, I faceplanted into the soft cushion of songwriting.
Adulthood began, bringing marriage and motherhood along with it almost immediately. I focused on getting my life started; while taking care of young children, I also became a pediatric speech/language pathologist.

Fast forward to a new turbulence - the turbulence of a divorce during the pandemic lockdowns. The songs that had been dammed for a decade flooded me. Songwriting once again kept me afloat; I fell in love.
On my first birthday post-divorce, my gift to myself was a collaboration with a producer. The songs that had been a life raft for me, alone in my basement, came to life.
My dream is to share these songs with anyone who craves companionship during a moment that would otherwise feel alone. By giving these shadowed parts of myself a voice, I hope to make the shadowed parts of other people feel understood as well.
I believe that in order to heal the individual, we must heal the collective - and vice versa. With an emphasis on healing and social justice, I hope that my music resonates with any place inside you that may be searching for nurturing and light.
